At the December 6th Sea Girt Borough Council Meeting, Chief Kevin Davenport and Mayor Ken Farrell awarded Patrolman William Joule, Officer Frank Ciufo, and Officer Kevin McCrossan a Borough Resolution and Lifesaving Award for lifesaving actions taken in September.

On the morning of September 18th, 2017 Special Officer II Frank Ciufo, Special Officer I Kevin McCrossan, and Patrolman William Joule were dispatched to an EMS call in the National Guard Training Center for a fall victim. Officer Ciufo reported a male down at a construction site with unknown circumstances. Upon arrival, Officer Ciufo immediately performed a situational awareness assessment of the scene and determined the scene was safe for all first responders. Officer Ciufo began to assess the patient and determined the patient’s condition immediately took a turn for the worse. The patient stopped breathing at which point Officer Ciufo, Officer McCrossan, and Patrolman Joule started CPR.

CPR and the placement of an AED were initiated and performed flawlessly by all three officers. It was three cycles of the AED and proper technique of CPR that brought the victim back to life. The victim was transported to the hospital by Manasquan First Aid at which point he was alert, conscious and speaking.

It was the direct result of Officer Ciufo, Officer McCrossan and Patrolman Joule’s training and proper technique that resulted in saving the victim’s life. We are happy to report the victim walked out of the hospital a short time later.
