The Sea Girt Police Department would like to welcome eight officers who were appointed as Class II Special Officers at the meeting of the Sea Girt Borough Council on January 3rd.  Two of these officers previously served the Borough as Class I Special Officers and the others were selected after an extensive application, interview, and background investigation process.

 

These new officers will begin training at the Monmouth County Police Academy and the Ocean County Police Academy.  There training will consist of over 300 hours on these, and many other, topics:

  • Defensive Tactics
  • Criminal Law
  • Motor Vehicle Law
  • Arrest Search and Seizure
  • Use of Force
  • Defensive Tactics
  • Baton Use
  • Firearm
  • Emergency Medical Responder
  • Domestic Violence Investigation
  • Report Writing
  • Crash Investigation
  • Traffic Control
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations
  • Community Policing
  • And many other topics related to law enforcement in New Jersey.

Class II Special Law Enforcement Officers are empowered to exercise full police powers and perform the duties of a permanent, regularly appointed full-time police officer.  They are authorized to carry a firearm and have full arrest powers.  These powers are limited only to the time when they are actively on-duty and work in a part-time status.
