This is your Sea Girt Police Department, with a message about the snow event that is going to pass through our area tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area, which will be in effect from 5:00 PM this afternoon to 10:00 AM Wednesday. Snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are possible.  Winds are expected to increase from the north/west and turn gusty mainly after the snowfall, with areas of blowing and drifting snow occurring Wednesday.

During the storm, we ask that you avoid any unnecessary driving. We also ask that you park your vehicles off the street, and well into your driveway to allow the snow plows plenty of room to operate from curb to curb.

We also request that if you have a fire hydrant near your home, and you are capable of doing so, please clear the snow from around that fire hydrant.

We would like to remind residents with newer heating systems that vent out of the side of their homes, one to two feet off of the ground, to be sure that these vents remain free from drifting snow. An obstructed vent could cause carbon monoxide to build up in your homes. If your CO detector does go off, exit your home leaving your door open, and contact your police department as quickly and safely as possible.

If anyone should experience an emergency or need assistance, please call your Sea Girt Police Department.
