On August 12, 2010 at 6:30pm Sea Girt Police Officer Douglas Nesbitt observed a Zecharias Miller, 22 with a last known address of Red Bank, coming from the rear yards of houses in the 600 block of Beacon and Chicago Boulevards. Patrolman Nesbitt, was on the only patrol officer on duty, went to question Mr. Miller who fled on foot. Patrolman Nesbitt has Sea Girt Police Dispatch contact surrounding towns for additional assistance. Patrolman Nesbitt located Mr. Miller hiding in a rear yard in the 300 block of Bell Place. Mr. Miller did have a knife and was pointing it at Patrolman Nesbitt, threatening to cut him. Patrolman Nesbitt used chemical pepper spry, charge and knocked the knife out of Mr. Miller’s hand. Patrolman Nesbitt, along with Spring Lake Heights Officers Casey Willms and Zack Ramp did subdue Mr. Miller, and transport him to Sea Girt Police Headquarters.
Sea Girt Police were assisted by Spring Lake Heights Police, Spring Lake Police, and the Wall Township Police.
Mr. Miller was charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Criminal Mischief, Disorderly Conduct, Physical Injury to a Public Servant, and Resisting Arrest. Mr. Miller has a bail set at $70,000 with no 10% option by Sea Girt Municipal Court Judge E. Thomas Brennan.
